About

What is the currency used in Uganda?

The currency used in Uganda is called the Ugandan shilling (Ush or UGX). US dollars are also widely accepted. There aren’t many ATMs in Uganda, and while some major hotels accept credit cards, they often add a 5-10% surcharge. It’s best not to rely solely on credit cards; it’s good to have cash as a backup.

What are some traditional foods and drinks to try in Uganda?

In Uganda, you should try luwombo, which is a local stew made with beef, chicken, or fish, mixed with vegetables and steamed in a plantain leaf. These stews are typically served with rice, chapati, ugali (a stiff maize porridge), or matoke (a mash of steamed green bananas). Many dishes in Uganda are cooked with a groundnut sauce.

Most camps, hotels, and lodges offer an international menu as well.

Where can I find the latest travel advice for Uganda?

For the most recent travel advice for Uganda, including information on entry requirements, health recommendations, and the current safety situation, please visit the website of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit Uganda is generally during the dry seasons, which occur from December to February and from June to August. During these periods, the weather is typically warm and sunny, making it ideal for wildlife viewing and outdoor activities such as gorilla trekking and hiking. The dry seasons also offer better road conditions for traveling around the country. However, it’s worth noting that Uganda’s climate can vary depending on the region, so it’s advisable to check specific weather patterns for the areas you plan to visit. Additionally, if you’re interested in seeing certain wildlife, such as migratory birds or certain animal behaviors, it’s best to research the optimal time for those experiences. Overall, visiting Uganda during the dry seasons provides the most comfortable and enjoyable travel experience.

A great company to travel with.."mond safaris uganda " It was our first time in Uganda, me and wife booked a wildlife tour to Murchison falls National Park, at the time of inquiry, we received a shift reply from mond safaris Uganda team, responding quickly to all our questions. our guide made the entire Murchison Falls tour exceptional ,,, trust me we don't regret every dollar spent on our trip, the quality service we got right away from the time of arrival at the Entebbe airport until the end of the safari was more than worthy our money. I recommend this company to anyone planning a Uganda safari this season!!!

Exciting and Humbling Mondi Safaris is quick to respond and has a better appreciation of what we were trying to achieve than the other companies, and the price was friendly and better. Mondi Safaris put together a full itinerary (which he communicated to us prior) including Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls, Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi, and some street art and ended up at the Markets. Mondi Safaris met us at our apartment in Entebbe Town near the Airport and walked with us to the taxi ride to and from the street art, to save time. Mondi Safaris obviously provided a running commentary during the tour but also gave us an interesting insight into the recent history of Uganda, as well as providing tips on other things to see and places to eat in Uganda. Highly recommended.

Extraordinary Travel with Mond Safaris ASAP! I recently returned from a trip to Uganda and had the pleasure to travel with Jose from Mond. One of the highlights of my trips was seeing the mountain gorillas. I flew to the location, Jose drove the long 10 hours to meet me and travel with me around the amazing sites around Uganda. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable as a tour guide, he is very personable, and will make your experience unforgettable. You will feel like you've known him for years after a few hours. Traveling through the wildlife parks and additional sites was an extraordinary experience with Jose. Further, he has knowledge far beyond that of any guide I have traveled with when it comes to issues that involve the vehicle you are traveling in, routes that should be taken to avoid delays etc. Every morning you will find him hard at work cleaning your vehicle, checking the oil, and preparing to gather your bags. This is man that takes care of your every need. He will take special care to be sure you are booked at the best lodges/camps with views that will take your breath away and staff that go above and beyond to be sure your stay(s) are perfect. Mond is open to any suggestions or options from the client and will got out of their way to be sure your trip is personalized, perfect and one that will be a "once in a lifetime"......although you will want to come back!!!! Book your travel with Mond without blinking any eye. I have already booked mine!!! Of note- there is a question below that asks if the locations was exciting, unusual or risky- Everything was exciting and unusual. Nothing was risky, Uganda is very safe especially when you are traveling with Mond.
