Volcanoes National Park

A Jewel of Rwanda and Home to mountain gorillas

Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National Park, located in the northwestern part of Rwanda, is one of Africa's most famous national parks. It is part of the Virunga Massif, which stretches across the borders of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Established in 1925, Volcanoes National Park is the oldest national park in Africa and covers approximately 160 square kilometers of lush rainforest and volcanic landscapes.

This park is best known for its population of mountain gorillas, made famous by the groundbreaking research of primatologist Dian Fossey. Her work brought international attention to the needs of these incredible creatures and played a crucial role in their conservation. Today, Volcanoes National Park remains a sanctuary for the critically endangered mountain gorillas, attracting thousands of visitors each year who come to experience the unforgettable adventure of gorilla trekking.
