Your adventure begins in Kigali, where you'll have a night to relax after your international flight. The next morning, we'll drive to Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda for a two-night safari at Magashi Lodge. This park boasts a variety of landscapes, including wetlands, savannahs, and dense forests, providing excellent opportunities to observe a wide range of mammals and birds.
Afterward, we'll journey to Volcanoes National Park in the northwest for a two-night stay surrounded by its breathtaking forest. Here, you'll have the thrilling opportunity to track mountain gorillas. If you're keen, you can add extra nights to your itinerary for another gorilla trek or to track the golden monkeys before we return to Kigali.

Trekking gorillas in Rwanda and Uganda needs some fitness since you trek through the dense forests of the Volcanoes National Park and Bwindi National park, you'll be guided by experienced trackers to locate one of the habituated gorilla families. Upon finding them, you'll have the incredible opportunity of 1 hour to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, watching them playing is a humbling and moving experience that leaves a lasting impression on visitors.
How old do you need to be to see gorillas in Uganda?
To see gorillas in Uganda and Rwanda, visitors must be at least 15 years and above. This age requirement is in place to ensure the safety of both the visitors and the gorillas, as trekking through the dense forest can be physically demanding.

Day 1: Welcome to Kigali, Rwanda
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you'll be greeted by your guide who will then take you to your hotel. If you arrive in the morning and feel like exploring, we can arrange private walking tours or guided visits to various attractions in Kigali, such as art galleries, workshops, or museums.

Situated in Kigali, The Retreat by Heaven is a luxurious boutique hotel offering a tranquil stay on a lush, tree-lined street, just 20 minutes from the airport and a short walk from the city center. Operating on solar power for sustainability, the hotel boasts only 11 rooms, each equipped with both indoor and outdoor living spaces furnished with locally crafted furniture from a Tanzanian sustainable teak farm. Day 2-3: Exploring Akagera National Park
After breakfast, we'll head to Akagera National Park, known for its diverse landscape and wildlife. Check in to Magashi Lodge and go on your first game drive, where you might spot giraffes, buffalos, elephants, crocodiles, hippos, and more.
The next day, start with an early morning game drive to witness the park's wildlife at its most active. After lunch, enjoy a boat ride on Lake Ihema, observing hippos and crocodiles along the shore.

Magashi Camp Overview:
Situated in the northeast corner of Akagera National Park, home to the iconic Big Five and more, Magashi Camp rests along the shores of Lake Rwanyakazinga. Embracing eco-friendly principles, the camp is constructed from natural materials like treated timber, and solar power provides electricity, with generators for backup to ensure continuous power supply. With only six tented rooms, all featuring open sides for uninterrupted lake views, guests can expect airy and spacious accommodations. Day 4- 5: Exploring Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, we'll drive to Volcanoes National Park, home to the famous mountain gorillas. Spend the afternoon relaxing at your lodge in preparation for the gorilla trek the following day.
On day five, after breakfast, head to Ruhengeri for a briefing before embarking on your gorilla trek. Spend an unforgettable day with these incredible creatures before returning to your lodge.

Mondi Safaris put together a full itinerary (which he communicated to us prior) including Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls, Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi, and some street art and ended up at the Markets. Mondi Safaris met us at our apartment in Entebbe Town near the Airport and walked with us to the taxi ride to and from the street art, to save time. Mondi Safaris obviously provided a running commentary during the tour but also gave us an interesting insight into the recent history of Uganda, as well as providing tips on other things to see and places to eat in Uganda. One of the highlights of my trips was seeing the mountain gorillas. I flew to the location, Jose drove the long 10 hours to meet me and travel with me around the amazing sites around Uganda. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable as a tour guide, he is very personable, and will make your experience unforgettable. You will feel like you've known him for years after a few hours. Traveling through the wildlife parks and additional sites was an extraordinary experience with Jose. Further, he has knowledge far beyond that of any guide I have traveled with when it comes to issues that involve the vehicle you are traveling in, routes that should be taken to avoid delays etc. Every morning you will find him hard at work cleaning your vehicle, checking the oil, and preparing to gather your bags. This is man that takes care of your every need. He will take special care to be sure you are booked at the best lodges/camps with views that will take your breath away and staff that go above and beyond to be sure your stay(s) are perfect. Mond is open to any suggestions or options from the client and will got out of their way to be sure your trip is personalized, perfect and one that will be a "once in a lifetime"......although you will want to come back!!!!
