Rwenzori Mountains National Park

Rwenzori Mountains National Park is a beautiful destination in western Uganda, covering about 996 square kilometers (385 square miles). It is located near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo and is home to the famous Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the "Mountains of the Moon."


The Rwenzori range is renowned for its incredible scenery, including snow-capped peaks, glaciers, waterfalls, and lush plant life. Its highest point, Margherita Peak on Mount Stanley, stands at 5,109 meters (16,762 feet) above sea level, making it Uganda’s tallest mountain and the third-highest in Africa.


The park was established in 1991 and gained recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994 due to its remarkable natural beauty and ecological importance.
