Mgahinga Gorilla National Park: Uganda’s Hidden Treasure

Found in southwestern Uganda, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park was established in 1991 and covers 33.9 square kilometers. It’s Uganda’s smallest national park and one of only two places in the uganda where you can enjoy gorilla trekking, the other being Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Despite its size, Mgahinga offers breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable experiences for nature and wildlife lovers.


Located within the Virunga Mountain Range, Mgahinga is part of a conservation area shared with Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, making it a crucial center for gorilla conservation in East Africa.


How to Get to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park


The park is about 497 kilometers (308 miles) from Uganda’s capital, Kampala or Entebbe, and takes 9-10 hours by road and For a faster option, you can take a 1.5-hour domestic flight from Entebbe to Kisoro Airstrip, followed by a 1-hour drive to the park.
