Mountains in Uganda- The pearl of Africa is really blessed with nature, that range from beautiful rivers, lakes, scenic landscapes, hospitable people, mountain gorillas, national parks, and amazing authentic culture, but it also has incredible mountains. This rather interesting country is surrounded by both block and volcanic mountains in almost every corner; in the East there is Mount Elgon, Rwenzori Mountain in the west and mountain Moroto in the north east. Other major mountains in Uganda include; Mt. Muhabura, Mountain Gahinga, Mount Sabyinyo, Mount Morungule, Mount Kadam and other minor mountains.

Mountain Rwenzori is found on the boarder of Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo and it is the 3rd highest mountain In Africa rising up more than 16700 feet above sea level. The mountain Rwenzori’s highest peaks rise above the clouds and are permanently snowcapped and this mountain’s ranges are higher to those of Alps and they have glaciers considered to be one of the sources of River Nile, the longest river in the world. The tallest peak of the ranges is known as Margherita peak which is also the 3rd highest in Africa; the other highest peaks of mountain Rwenzori are mount Speke and Mount Baker. This mountain really is a unique destination it shelters verdant biodiversity, including Rwenzori mountain national park, waterfalls, glaciers, snowfields and the unique mountainous vegetation. The park on this mountain is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it attracts various visitors around the world. Some of the activities you can engage in on this mountain include hiking / mountain climbing, nature walks, culture, birding and many others.

Mountain Elgon is the extinct volcano that erupted more than 24 million years ago and has the largest surface area of the extinct volcano in the world and this mountain is the 4th highest in East Africa with the 2nd highest peak in Uganda. This mountain has the largest intact caldera and a collapsed crater covering over 4okm at the top of the mountain. The peaks of Mount Elgon include Mubiyi, Masaba, Wagagai (the highest), Sudek and Koitobos.
